There is no such thing as a level playing field. Relativity is your station in life. In every aspect of living, you are relatively better off or worse off than your fellow human being, and this continuously cycles from one to the other, keeping you stuck in a competitive game of offense and defense, your self-preservation dependent upon your continued gamesmanship. You play to win or draw even; or give up and become somebody’s roadkill.
As unfair as this may seem, imbalance and counterbalance are the dominant themes in this world, maintaining the haves versus have-nots, the winners versus the losers, the strong versus the weak, the healthy versus the sick, the anguished versus the contented, the loved versus the heartbroken, and every other duality of power and circumstance, keeping us from reaching the ideals of peace, harmony, love, and equality.
We continue pursuing these ideals though, praying for them, and even eulogizing them after they’ve come and gone, having teased us with their brief appearance, as if the game finally ended, leaving us all winners – our favorite delusion!
